Modern Rug Design Ideas by Fox-Nahem Associates

Fox-Nahem Associates‘ president Joe Nahem’s genius eye is revealed in new ways with each job. Joe and his late business partner, Tom Fox, grew up in New York City and created Fox-Nahem Associates when they were in their early twenties. Joe and his dedicated team have created a network of loyal partners who aid them in bringing their imaginative designs, which are unique to each project, to reality after three decades of experience. He collects unique historic items and collaborates with artists, craftspeople, and artisans from all over the world, adapting to the times without succumbing to fashion fads.

Fox-Nahem Associates is a small, hands-on firm that values its customers. Many clients return for more projects once we apply discretion to protect their privacy. By monitoring every area of turnkey completion, from architecture to bed linens, the firm’s projects are completed on time and on budget.

In addition to features in most major design magazines and several books on interiors, Fox-Nahem Associates has been listed in a number of top design lists, including the AD 100, Elle Decor A-List-Top 25, New York Magazine’s Top 100, New York Spaces Top 50 Designers, and Luxe Magazine’s Gold List.

Fox-Nahem Associates’ Projects

1. Paul Rudolph Townhouse in Greenwich Village, NYC

Paul Rudolph redesigned this historic nineteenth-century mansion in the 1970s. The new owners enlisted Fox-Nahem Associates to work with Steven Harris Architects on a total gut renovation that preserved much of Rudolph’s original design character.

2. Robert A.M. Stern Townhouse in West Village, NYC

Robert A.M. Stern designed this recently built townhouse in Manhattan’s West VillageFox-Nahem Associates reimagined the five-story home, adding texture, warmth, shape, and color while keeping the client’s significant art collection in mind.

3. The Dakota Building in NYC

For the Fox-Nahem Associates team, the opportunity to tackle “New Traditional” in one of NYC’s most prominent buildings was a welcome one. The idea was to create a place that seemed lighter and more contemporary while still keeping the formal grandeur that the space was designed to have.

4. Puck Building Penthouse in NYC

This new penthouse was built atop NYC’s renowned Puck Building, designed by architect Jose RamirezFox-Nahem Associates was tasked with rearranging the spaces and creating a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere for a young family.

5. Southampton Residence

Fox-Nahem Associates worked closely with their clients, who had owned this classic house south of the highway since the early 1990s, to entirely reuse the space for their current lives as empty nesters. An unsuitable Family Room, a too-tight Master Suite, and an outmoded Kitchen were re-imagined for their needs today, after what had been intended as a refresh swiftly developed into a rebuild.

6. Robert Downey Jr. Windmill ‘Cottage’ in East Hampton, NY

In a magnificent Hamptons compound tailor-made for family fun, Robert Downey Jr. and his wife, producer Susan Downey, take a break from the fast lane.

7. Annabelle Selldorf Beach House

Annabelle Selldorf and Fox-Nahem Associates were enlisted by a New York gallery owner and his family to design a Hamptons retreat where their blue-chip art collection could shine.

8. Greenwich Residence

A young, energetic family sought FN to remodel the interiors of their vast, historic Greenwich home to more truly reflect their current interests, which included a significant contemporary art collection and extremely conventional furnishings. This 10,000 square foot home was meticulously cleaned from top to bottom. FN expertly produced a highly personal space marked by elegance, timelessness, and a splash of fun by seamlessly mixing refined vintage pieces, unique designs, and commissioned artisan pieces. Finally, FN achieved a nice equilibrium between art and interior design.

9. Park Avenue Duplex

Working on an 8000-square-foot duplex in one of New York City’s most venerable and iconic Park Avenue buildings, FN was put to the ultimate test by completing a comprehensive gut makeover, including decorating and furnishing, in just five months. The clients, a young family with a sizable modern art collection, had previously collaborated with FN on a number of projects.

10. NYC Residence

FN took a fairly “vanilla” undistinguished room and elevated it by adding layers of architectural and finish detail for a NYC full-floor apartment owned by a second-time client. Plaster wall finishes, fluted walnut paneling, and new bathrooms were supplemented by custom-created and found vintage pieces, which eliminated any generic, spec-apartment quality that may have existed previously.
