Art Basel are thrilled to have been awarded a seven-year contract to stage a new contemporary and Modern art fair at the prestigious Grand Palais in Paris. This new worldwide initiative, set to launch in October 2022, will develop linkages with France’s cultural sectors, ranging from fashion and design to cinema and music, to produce a major event that radiates across the city and is deeply ingrained in Paris and its cultural landscape.
Art Basel Celebrates Paris’ Cultural Heritage
The new exhibition will first take place at the Grand Palais Éphémère, located in the historic center of Paris on the Champ-de-Mars, until the Grand Palais’ renovation is completed in 2024.
Art Basel’s Global Director- Marc Spiefler says ‘With its incomparable history and contemporary dynamism, Paris is uniquely positioned as a pivotal epicenter of the international cultural scene.’

They hope to rely on Paris‘ unrivaled status as a global metropolis by helping to produce a bustling week that will increase the city’s international resonance as a cultural center even more.
Art Basel brings its 50-year legacy of establishing the world’s top art fairs in Europe, the Americas, and Asia to this endeavor. Each Art Basel show is defined by its host city and area, which is reflected in the participating galleries, artworks shown, and parallel programming organized in conjunction with local institutions for each edition.
As in Basel, Miami Beach, and Hong Kong, Art Basel Paris will collaborate closely with the city’s museums, private institutions, galleries, and other cultural venues to offer a lively cultural program from dawn to night, all week.
Art Basel Wil Stage Contemporary and Modern Art At Grand Palais de Paris
Their objective is to develop a new event that brings together artists, collectors, curators, and gallery owners from all over the world, as well as Parisian cultural players beyond the Grand Palais, by merging the history of Art Basel with the cultural legacy of Paris.
Art Basel will establish a new French organization and hire a dedicated staff on the ground to accomplish this ambitious new initiative for Paris, as well as engage closely with France’s gallery community and assure them a significant presence in the fair’s Selection Committee.
Furthermore, Art Basel seeks to create a distinct identity and brand for the Parisian event. More information on the design fair, including the makeup of the Selection Committee, gallery application deadlines, and event nomenclature, will be released in the following weeks.
